Charleston<\/strong> is the second largest and first oldest city in South Carolina. The historic center of the city is located on a peninsula formed by two rivers, the Ashley and Cooper, flowing into the Atlantic. During the Civil War, the city was captured without noticeable damage, so Old Charleston retains century-old buildings, beautiful churches whose spires rise above the low city limits, and a colorful harbor. Charleston resembles its neighbor, Savannah, in atmosphere of the good old South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
