Charleston Home Tour: A Local Stylist's Posh Pad

Charleston Home Tour: Inside Andrea Serrano's Posh Pad

Today I’m taking you inside the lovely home of one of my favorite people, Andrea Serrano! She & her husband are such good friends to us, and I’m so happy for them with how fabulously their recent home renovation turned out!

Let me introduce you to Andrea: Prior to living in Charleston, Andrea lived in New York and worked as a fashion stylist on major advertising campaigns, magazine editorials, and even with celebrities. Since moving here, Andrea has done everything from work as a costume shopper on the set of Army Wives to own a downtown shop for 5 years alongside her husband, Gus. Today she runs the Charleston Shop Curator blog and Instagram, makes regular appearances on ABC 4’s Lowcountry Live, and works styling jobs for big brands from Southern Living to Wal-Mart. As you’ll see, her home is truly a reflection of her elevated taste. Despite living with 3 boys, there is plenty of luxe all up in this chic abode!

First, let’s get some quick facts about the house from Andrea:

Year built: 1970
Part of town: James Island
Who lives here? My husband Gustavo, sons Mateo and Sebastian, and our 2 Doxies (Roxy and Pepper)

1) What is your Favorite feature of your house? What would you change about it, if anything?

We love our new vaulted ceilings! (I’ve been in the home prior to this ceiling transformation, and it’s like walking into an entirely new home).

Tell us about the design- did you have help from a designer or how did that all happen? Did you do it all at once or take your time decorating?

We had a lot of help from Lauren Messina Design. I was so overwhelmed with all of the decisions and it was so nice to have someone to run everything by. As far as decorating, we still aren’t totally “done”, but we love what we’ve done so far!

Are we ever really “done” with our decor?

What are some must haves that help make your space functional while also being such a design lover’s dream?

Our open plan living room is something we’ve been wanting to do since we moved in 15 years ago. Life is all about timing and we finally met the right contractors to manifest our vision. We also built up our equity in the value of our house and refinanced to fund the renovation. We use to have 4 walls and a low popcorn ceiling in our main living area and now we can cook and entertain in one big space. The kitchen was always the heart of our house and it’s so nice to cook and hang out with everyone comfortably. Our contractor built and island and a buffet so we have so much more storage that we didn’t have before. Having white walls gave us a blank slate to pop color and the black accents like the doors give the space a graphic detail.
