guest post written by McKay Norton

As the weather warms up and summer begins, escaping outdoors for a picnic is the perfect way to enjoy your weekend. Whether you’re looking for a casual family outing or a quiet setting for a romantic night out, picnics are an easy and fun way to experience a local park or beach.  Even if you’re no picnic connoisseur, there are three essential items to every picnic. See below for our picks for the perfect summer outing and enjoy these photos from Captured By Kate Photography.

1. Picnic Baskets

There are a wide range of receptacles that fit the bill for this category; from cooler bags to the classic wicker carry-all.

Straw Market Tote, (similar) $35 // Cooler Bags: Lemon Insulated Cooler Bag ($32) & Striped Cooler Bag ($35) // Wicker Picnic Baskets: Catalina ($49.95) & Picnic Time ($69.95)

2. Picnic Blankets

Turkish towels are my go-to for picnics because they are so lightweight and roll up really small to be easily stashed into your basket, but these other options are so much fun, too!

Turkish towel, $32 // Round towel, $59.95 // Blanket with Handles, $62

3. Portable Plates

Fun plates are my favorite way to make any type of entertaining more fun!  Melamine plates like these are a great choice because they are lightweight and shatter proof.

Lulie Wallace Plates & Serveware, $6-$28

Liz's Picnicking Outfit

Don't forget to dress for the Charleston heat! I always feel cool & comfy in a dress + a pair of Keds.  Make your picnic style your own and don't forget a hat!

Shirtdress: solid or gingham, $36-50 // Keds (similar), $ // Hey Y'all Bag by Beau & Ro, $158 // Neck Scarf (similar), $38

Happy Picnicking and if you live in Charleston, come by our shop (Cannonborough Collective) to shop Turkish towels & more in person!
