A Progressive Girl's Night Out on Hutson's Alley

Nestled in the cutest little alley is a swanky trifecta of awesome restaurants.  Known as "Huston's Alley, you'll find Michaels on the Alley, The Victor Social Club, and Vincent Chicco's.  This is a great place to make an evening of it with the gals, from happy hour to dessert!  I highly recommend starting with a drink at Victors, then pick a restaurant and get an appetizer and the other for dinner.  Everything we tried was delicious, but the calamari was my favorite!

Girl's Night Out(fit)

I paired my white Betty B LaRoque top with some of last year's capris.  Shop Borough made sure we all had cute clutches and we rocked some lovely jewels from Cristina V

A Weekend of Fun: Backyard Entertaining With Your Squad

Summer is the perfect excuse to have your favorite gal pals over for some fun times and cold beverages.  Take your girl's night out to the next level and to the outdoors for a change!  We headed to the bocce and badminton courts at Mixson Bath & Racquet Club for a fun and games happy hour, but you could execute a great outdoor get together in your own backyard or at a local park.  It's all about the #squadgoals.

Give the Girls a Theme

Ladies love to dress up, and let's be honest: we really dress up for each other, not for the guys!  A regular weekday could be far less mundane if you have a little excuse to rock a fun outfit. You could invite your guests to wear all-white or shades of denim and chambray.  Since summer is in full swing and the 4th of July is approaching, I invited these ladies to wear white and blue. I didn't forget the red... we had some One Hope rose to take care of that pop of color!  Kelly and Andrea dressed up their Madewell jeans with great shoes, and I tied up my favorite new tee from Southern Socks. Everyone accessorized with bags from Simply J Boutique (I'm obsessed with their graphic totes!) and baubles from my favorite jewelry store in town, Candy Shop Vintage.

I also made sure we all had our sunnies, provided by Nectar! They are a very well priced local company with amazingly lightweight and really comfy shades.  All the sunglasses shown here are under $50, and they are also offering a 20% discount to "my readers"... so guess what mom that means you get a sunglasses discount!

Decorate the Yard

How fun are the colorful red chairs at Mixson!? It's great to have fabulous outdoor furniture, but you can just improvise with what you already have.  We set up a relaxation station, and all it took was one of my Turkish towels with a cute pillow plopped on it.  Set up a serve yourself "bar" by putting your ice bucket on whatever stool or end table you have.  That was about the easiest backyard decor I have ever done and freed me up to enjoy hanging with my guests.

Playing Is Encouraged

I think it's due to my mom's sunny influence that made me never quite grow out of fun and games.  The choices of backyard games are endless, and they usually add some fun aspects to your decor and event photos as well.  We set up some croquet and bocce, and I'm pretty sure the ladies had fun!

Thanks to Jennifer Collins for these awesome photos, and to the #HolyCityChicks shown here! These gals happen to be other local bloggers, so check them out for awesome fashion tips no matter what suits you:
The Charleston Shop Curator finds the best stores and brands to incorporate in her stylish looks, and she's also a down-to-earth mom of 2! Paper Meets Pearl has a cool, chic look that's usually pretty feminine and polished like she is, with some fabulous DIYs mixed in.  XoXoIJoelle has plus-sized fashion tips with fun and colorful looks that any gal will be inspired by.  Katherine of Styled Sugar Plum is the most stylish little mom ever. I am always super impressed with a woman that can raise a little human and still look flawless.  I cannot wait for you to see ThriftyLittleBecca's post, because ALL of her outfits came from Amazon!

A weekend in Charleston: Waterfront Happy Hour

As you may have gathered, I'm all about making every day a little more enjoyable. Why wait for the weekend to have all your fun!? Kelly from Paper Meets Pearl met me in Patriot's Point a couple weeks ago for a mid-week happy hour.  What a perfect way to unwind after a day of working and make an ordinary Tuesday so much more fun! The salt air certainly has a way of taking away your mid-week blues!  Here's what you'll need for some much needed gal time or an easy date night:

Great Scenery (or a great boat)

I'm personally not a boat owner (I WILL gladly accept invitations to ride on yours however), but the good news is you don't have to be out on the water to feel the benefits of ocean breezes and soothing waves.  The Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina is a great place to stick your toes in the sand, enjoy great views, and be knee deep in rows and rows of boats.  If you want to get your boat fix on a budget, you can just hop right on the Water Taxi for an inexpensive but scenic ride.  Or, just park it on the dock for a couple hours with your boo or bestie while you dream up future boat names.

Appetizers & Adult Beverages

I have probably mentioned a time or two how much I loathe cooking, but I certainly love my snacks!  Stop by the store on your way home from work and grab in-season fruit and some nuts or cheeses and voila! That is all you need for your happy hour bites.  Then if you're not sure what to grab from the wine aisle, they aren't calling rose "summer water" for nothing! It's certainly the perfect refreshing treat for an evening on the dock or boat, especially if you add some seltzer water and ice to keep it extra crisp.  I love pretty much any French rose, or try this surprisingly good Cali rose for under $20 from One Hope that will ship to your door. (That company is great because they give 50% of profits to charities, such as educating women on ovarian cancer). Bring an ice bucket and spread out a Turkish towel and you have a cozy spot to chill & chat while you dangle your feet in the water.

The "proper" weekend-inspired attire:

Kelly is just as savvy as she is chic!  She was smart and brought a weekender bag so we could stash all our beverages, snacks, and a Turkish towel picnic blanket of course... meanwhile I wasn't much help carrying things in my clutch, but at least it is so stinking cute.  We both kept it casual with some fun Southern Proper flats, which are my new favorite accessory!  They made my go-to white Madewell jeans a little more interesting than my usual sneakers, and paired well with the precious Peter Pan collared top I'm obsessing over!  It has the cutest cut out in the back, too. We also had to throw on our Aviate hats to combat the late afternoon wind that was rolling in.  They are definitely one of my weekend staples, and I can't help but keep adding to my collection.

Here's to a seaside happy hour any day of the week. Cheers y'all!
