Weekender Home Tour: Sam Sidney

You are about to be inspired by a Charleston artist who definitely knows how to have fun when it comes to interior design.  She is a master of mixing in affordable finds & DIYs throughout her home, and doesn't take life too seriously (hence the porch swurfers).  I interviewed Sam & toured her lovely Mount Pleasant home with photographer Abby Murphy, and we sure did have fun!  Every day should feel more like the weekend, and it definitely feels like Saturday at Sam Sidney's house!

Who is Sam Sidney? I am an artist, mom to 3 awesome kids, dachshund collector, and native new Yorker living in Charleston for 10 years!

Where can people shop for decor/furniture if they want to mimic your look?  I like to shop local when I can.  Some of my favorites are Celadon, West Elm, Indigo market, and some other vintage shops!  I have had awesome luck on Craigslist, and who doesn't love a little IKEA for inexpensive clean items (like the white console table in my living room)?!

What are 2 of your favorite objects/pieces in your home and why?  Hmmm?! Let's see.... my 2 favorite things?! One would be our ping pong table. When we bought our home we had no furniture.  The layout of our home is pretty traditional and there is a room intended to be a formal dining room.  We thought a ping pong table would be much more useful.   When friends come over, people love it!  We can also remove the net, throw on a table cloth and seat 12 for a dinner party!  The other favorite thing would be our family photos.  Our kids are the best! They are truly what makes out home what it is.  We have a series of 12 photos down the hallway taken when the kids were little, every time I walk by it I a reminder of how fast they are growing and to take it all in!  In our family room we have another series of 9 photos. My friend Leigh Webber is an awesome local underwater photographer and captured some awesome images of our kiddos swimming in our pool one summer!  They are beautiful!

Can you offer any decorating tips for us?  My motto when buying things for my home is, "if I love it, I buy it" then I figure out a spot for it later.  My goal is to have a home full of objects that all make me happy.  If I find an amazing vintage sofa, then I snag it and sell the one that is in its place.  I like a clean and open space so whenever I bring something in, something else has to go!

You can shop Sam's adorable art at Indigo Market in Charleston, which you will love as much as her home.  See more of her cheerful abode on my guest skirt! blog post this month, and the full gallery below.
